Bev Ingle

Partner and Designer for Contained Spaces
"Hardy in all Zones"

Bev is inspired by nature from the tiniest bud to the largest of vistas. Having grown up on a farm in the Midwest, connection with all things growing is simply part of her DNA. When designing arrangements and container gardens, she especially loves experimenting with new varieties that provide unexpected composition. Her vision is to provide each client with a unique aesthetic created just for them.

Vital Signs

  • Delighting a customer is at the TOP of her list.
  • No manicures please... too busy weeding and transplanting her garden
  • If she’s not in the garden, she’s snuggled up with a good book

Jason Addington

Senior Associate Landscape Designer
“Captain Problem Solver”

Made in the Midwest. Jason is our go-to guru for translating grand ideas into grounded, buildable plans. Whether he’s smoothing out a complicated grading issue or figuring out how to keep a 150-year-old tree happy, Jason brings a calm, collected presence to every project. He’s the first one to grab a pencil (yes, an actual pencil) and sketch out a better solution on the spot.

When he’s not solving site puzzles, he’s probably sipping coffee and cracking jokes with the crew.

Vital Signs

  • Former 5-year-old with dreams of military glory
  • Believes coffee is a morning requirement, not a suggestion
  • Brings a pencil to every meeting—just in case it gets real

Sarah Colby

Associate Landscape Designer
“Plants, people, and paint brushes”

When she’s not out in the field, you might find her painting, collaborating with fellow creatives, or exploring the city with George — her four-legged sidekick, unofficial design assistant, and biggest fan of Chicago’s green spaces.

Vital Signs

  • Tends to spot native perennials before most people spot the sidewalk
  • Once drew flowers before she could name them — now she does both
  • Has yet to meet a gluten-free donut or baked good she wouldn't eat

Nick Myers

Associate Landscape Designer
“The Audiobook Aesthete”

Straight out of La Grange and into your landscape dreams, Nick is a thoughtful designer with a love for subtle details and a good commute soundtrack.

Nick gravitates toward designs that capture both texture and motion — a balance he often finds in Prairie Dropseed. Its subtle movement and fine structure reflect the kind of quiet beauty he brings to every project. When he was five, he wanted to be a chef, but we’re pretty sure it was just for the tall white hat.

Vital Signs

  • Finds calm in the quiet motion of Prairie Dropseed
  • Father of four, firm believer in the power of both play and perennials
  • Believes every great space (like every great kid’s book) needs rhythm and balance

Stephanie King-Myers

Client Relations & Marketing Manager
“The Voice Behind the Brand (Literally)”

Equal parts strategist, storyteller, and community connector, Stephanie is the first face clients meet and the creative voice behind Red Spade’s brand.

Whether she’s mapping out a partnership, planning a sponsorship, or writing copy that makes native plants feel like celebrities, Stephanie keeps Red Spade top of mind (and on-brand). A lifelong creative, she brings a background in real estate, design, voiceover work, and marketing — and somehow makes it all feel like a conversation over coffee.

Vital Signs

  • Known to schedule site visits and sponsorships in the same hour
  • Committed to white-glove service from first contact to final install
  • Mom of four, lifelong singer, and never without a creative project in the works

Core Principles

Our Process

01.Coffee & Conversation

It starts with a conversation, not a consultation, over a cup of coffee, a drink, or a piece of pie. It’s about listening to what you want, need or hope to achieve.

02.Napkin Thoughts

Our creativity and lateral thinking are not confined by a conventional process, but rather come to life on a blank canvas: a napkin on the table, a can of marking paint in the field or a computer rendering. Each home and site reveals unique clues to developing the best design approach.

03.Sticks & Stones

We’ve tackled all types and sizes of hardscape and softscape projects from pools and pergolas to patios and green roofs. But we’re sure there’s another challenge out there…and we want to find it. Let us bring our team of seasoned designers and craftsmen to your project to create a special environment.

04.Unplug & Unwind

Time to sit back and relax. Your home is not a museum, but a living space for you to use every day. Enjoy what you have created—we’re just happy to have gotten you here.

  • "Everyone stops and asks who designed it for me ..."

"My landscape speaks for itself. Everyone stops and asks who designed it for me. I tell all my friends about him (Scott Freres) and everyone uses him (Scott Freres). Not just landscape, he has designed everything and always has resources to help with everything. I'm his biggest fan"

  • "We could go on and on ..."

“Red Spade was beyond a contractor, they were consultants, consistently making valuable suggestions...We could go on and on with praise for Red Spade, but the bottom line is they exceeded our expectations every step of the way, (and) we are delighted with the finished product..."

  • "It's made our house a home."

“The result was so much more than we'd hoped for...an exciting and beautiful renovation of our property. We were extremely impressed with the patience and attention to detail of the Red Spade crews. We love Zac. Throughout it all Margaret never lost her sense of humor and never stopped returning my phone calls and emails --many almost immediately-- and Scott never stopped listening and suggesting and spot checking, and the crew never stopped giving it their best. We have been so happy with the time, advice and work Red Spade Environments has done for us over the years. Their knowledge and vision has made our landscaping beautiful and has lasted for years. It's made our house a home."
